The Institute's business is promoting health and biomedical innovations, such that the commercial outcomes of IHBI research may generate new products and companies. IHBI facilitates the transfer of new knowledge into public policy which leads to an improved health care industry.
Commercialisation and technology transfer of IHBI research is managed by qutbluebox pty ltd (‘bluebox’), the intellectual property management, technology transfer and commercialisation company for QUT. bluebox is intrinsically involved in the biotechnology industry and development of relevant technology by its access to catchments within QUT such as IHBI, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Science.
bluebox actively seeks out invention disclosures from all related research disciplines within these catchments, evaluates their commercial potential and devises and funds intellectual property protection and commercialisation strategies. In addition, bluebox holds shares and board positions in a number of existing biotech start-up companies, and is responsible for the formation and management of new biotech companies via its commercialisation process.
