Applications to occupational health and safetyminers

The research team has been investigating the use of the monitoring system to obtain information about the characteristics of physically demanding work, particularly in the coal-mining industry.  The ability to monitor cardiac function and to obtain information about working postures may help pinpoint activities that carry high risk of musculoskeletal injury or excessive cardiovascular demand.

The study includes:

  • laboratory validation trials for continuous posture assessment
  • field studies collecting data across 12 hour shifts
  • collaboration with various mining groups in Queensland and New South Wales

This research has been funded in part by Injury Prevention and Control, Australia
