The Wound Healing Service is an ongoing service aimed at providing advanced treatment, education, and preventive strategies to improve the quality of life of people living with chronic wounds in Brisbane and across Queensland. The Service is led by a Nurse Practitioner and is supported by a Community Development Worker and a team of researchers. It is anticipated that the Wound Healing Service will become a collaborative hub – linking existing wound care services, health care professionals, best-practice and proven research findings, and members of the community. Previous research conducted by IHBI has found that peer support, education, and long term continuity of care in a social environment can improve cost-effectiveness and health outcomes for patients with chronic wounds. Our aim is to establish a reputable, centralised, and community-based service where patients with chronic wounds can access social support and activities, and evidence-based treatments on a regular and ongoing basis. Communication and collaboration is a key feature of the Wound Healing Service. We will work closely with referring practitioners, the local Divisions of General Practice, vascular and wound care physicians in Brisbane metropolitan hospitals, and community nursing organisations. It is anticipated that the Wound Healing Service will improve healing rates, recurrence rates, and quality of life for people with wounds. The Wound Healing Service will also improve translation of current research outcomes into practice in the community. We have a particular interest in researching chronic leg ulcers. We would be grateful if you could recommend us to people who would benefit from this innovative new service. Please use the Wound Healing Community Outreach Service Referral Form when making referrals. The Wound Healing Service is open every Tuesday at 60 Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove (excluding public holidays). Hours of operation are 8.00am to 4.30pm. Patients and health care practitioners can phone (07) 3138 6109 or email woundservice@qut.edu.au to make an appointment. Any person with a chronic wound can attend the Wound Healing Service either self-referred or referred by health care professionals. If you would you like to receive regular updates on our wound care research and upcoming clinical education sessions (some attracting continuing professional development education points), please register your name, email address, and contact phone number at woundservice@qut.edu.au.
